Kimpton De Witt is by far the best place to stay in Amsterdam.
Ever since I learn about the Kimpton brand a year and a half ago I dreamed of staying at one. But being the frugal person I am, I only use points for hotel stays and rarely pay for them out of pocket. But I never had enough points. That is until I discovered the IHG Rewards Club MasterCard from Chase.
You betcha I travel hacked my way to this hotel room.
With the credit card, I was able to earn a free night at any hotel on the anniversary of the opening of my card. Hello luxury hotel!
Location, Location, Location
When considering the best place to stay in Amsterdam, the location is incredibly important. Kimpton De Witt could not be in a better spot, right in the heart of the city near Centraal Station. For that reason alone it is the best hotel in Amsterdam.
You’re able to venture off into the heart of Amsterdam without having to catch a train from outside city center, walk forever, and then catch a tram. Everything is right there and right where you need it.
I was able to take the train from the airport to central station and then it was a short 15-minute walk to the hotel. I did take a wrong turn and it took me a little bit longer than 15 minutes, but for those of you that know me, it isn’t that surprising I got a little lost.
The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. I had my keys and was up to my room in a matter of no time.
As a platinum IHG Rewards Club member, I was able to earn 500 bonus points just for checking in. I also got a €15 voucher for the mini bar or the restaurant downstairs. I opted for the restaurant where I had a glass of red wine and a salad for dinner.
The Deluxe King Room
Located in a 17th-century building, the rooms are incredibly spacious compared to other rooms I have had in Europe. The room had a luxury boutique feel to it. And was the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam’s city center when I was ready to call it a night.
The bathroom was my favorite part of the room. Before you start thinking I’m weird, hear me out! It had a rain shower showerhead. I’ve always wanted to stay somewhere that had one and yes, they are everything you have dreamed of and more.
Another feature in the room that was a favorite of mine was the small brass colored Bluetooth speaker perched on the desk. Music is so intricately entwined in my life. There isn’t a day that goes by where I don’t have Spotify open listening to favorite songs and looking for new favorites. Having a proper speaker versus just the speakers on my phone to listen to music was fantastic.
All of the rooms also have a yoga mat, tea/coffee station, fully stocked minibar, and complimentary wifi.
Amsterdam is a great city to set out on foot or rent a bike and just wander. You can follow the canals that loop around the city center or choose to do one of the canal cruises.
The city also has plenty of museums that cover a broad range of topics from science, to naval history, to art, and just about everything in between.
Have you stayed at the Kimpton De Witt? What did you think?
