The Alhambra is one of those really cool places that I think everyone should see at least once in their lifetime.
I was in Grenada with my high school Spanish class on our two-week tour of Spain when I visited. So this feels like it was eons ago. We were all given a proper tour of the grounds when we first arrived. After the tour, we were allowed to venture off on our own within the complex. It was my first time abroad so I stuck with one of the teachers and another student.
We spent the afternoon walking through the gardens. I learned a lot of Spanish from Ms. Z and my Spanish improved so much in just that short amount of time. One word in particular that she taught me stands out in my memory because it was so stupidly simple I was embarrassed I didn’t know what it was.
Ms. Z was telling us about her luna de miel with her husband. I had no idea what luna de miel was. I knew that miel was honey and luna was moon when you look at each word individually, but for the life of me, I could not figure out what they were together. She finally told me it was honeymoon.
Someday, I am hoping to go back and visit the Alhambra. I think now that I am older and more mature, I will have an even greater appreciation for the architecture and history.
Have you been to the Alhambra? What was your favorite part?
